Remember, remember, the Fifth of November
Gunpowder treason and plot
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, ’twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England to overthrow
By God’s providence he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King!
And so, every 5th November we set off fireworks and light huge bonfires. To rejoice at a failed terrorist plot or to remember a revolutionary ? Who knows ? And who cares ? It’s just an excuse to wrap up on a cold winters night and stand in a local park watching fireworks. Especially after last years celebrations were abandoned due to the pandemic. its nice for life to feel “normal” again. But with the way British politics is going nowadays where is Guido Fawkes when you need him ?
Another excuse to get drunk, like on Saint Paddy’s day? Patrick’s day? Be careful Ian, don’t get burned!

“I see no reason why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot”
This line caught my attention. Seems like something we Americans should be saying about our current politics. 🙂
I’m glad you had a fun time and a sense of normalcy. I bet it felt amazing!

Yes! That’s a great way to think about this whole mess. Maybe we all will be more grateful for what we have.
